| Estes panfletos foram distribuidos em Novembro 2025 pelas 8.000 caixas do correio do nosso concelho. No universo Montemorense (que é uma amostra do país) há ainda muita gente cujos cães se continuam a reproduzir sendo que a principal causa de abandono de cães são as novas ninhadas. Ninguém quer ter 14 cães em casa então dão os cachorros a qualquer pessoa e que depois os pode abandonar. Para a maioria das pessoas, retirar os ovários e o útero às cadelas é visto como algo normal e desejável, mas quando se fala em castrar um cão macho, de repente surge o "AI QUE HORROR!!!". Esta diferença de critérios expõe um machismo profundamente enraizado em Portugal e típico de país em vias de desenvolvimento. Na situação trágica em que Portugal se encontra — com números astronómicos de abandonos e milhares de cães a viverem em péssimas condições — a castração é a única solução eficaz para travar este ciclo. É por isso urgente que esta mentalidade retrógrada mude. No norte da Europa, esta questão nem sequer se coloca: castrar ou não castrar não é motivo de debate — é a única solução responsável e é fundamental para evitar a sobrepopulação e proteger os animais. Por favor castrem os vossos cães e ajudem a combater este flagelo dos abandonos em Portugal. | These leaflets were distributed in November 2025 to the 8,000 mailboxes in our municipality. In our Montemor-o-Novo universe (which is a sample of the country), there are still many people whose dogs continue to reproduce, with the main cause of dog abandonment being new litters. Nobody wants to have 14 puppies at home, so they give the puppies to anyone who can then abandon them. For most people, removing the ovaries and uterus from female dogs is seen as normal and desirable, but when it comes to neutering a male dog, suddenly the reaction is "OH HOW HORRIBLE!!!". This difference in criteria exposes a deeply rooted machismo in Portugal, typical of a developing country. In the tragic situation in which Portugal finds itself — with astronomical numbers of abandonments and thousands of dogs living in terrible conditions — neutering is the only effective solution to stop this cycle. That is why it is urgent that this retrograde mentality changes. In Northern Europe, this question doesn't even arise: to neuter or not to neuter is not a matter of debate—it's the only responsible solution and is fundamental to preventing overpopulation and protecting animals. Please neuter your dogs and help combat this scourge of abandonment in Portugal.
